In Ontario, elementary school includes Kindergarten to Grade 8 (K-8).

The purpose of elementary education in Ontario is to provide each student with a strong foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. Special emphasis is placed on developing literacy and numeracy skills, which are essential building blocks for future academic success.

To further support students, especially during the transition from elementary to secondary school, a range of initiatives—such as orientation programs and transition strategies—have been introduced to help students navigate academic challenges and the social changes of adolescence.
